How To Use Vocal Colour in Ableton Live

Step 1 - Drop it on your Vocal Track

Load Vocal Colour as an insert on any lead vocal, backing vocal, or vocal bus. It works across any vocal style and any genre. Avoid using it on full mix or master channels, it's designed for individual vocal tracks.

Step 2 - Start with Macro 8 (Dry/Wet)

Start with the blend before anything else. Bring Macro 8 to around 40–50% so you can hear the wet chain sitting alongside your dry vocal. The wet chain adds colour on top of it.

Step 3 - Build your Character

Use Macro 2 (Heat) to set the warmth and saturation level, Macro 4 (Room) to dial in the depth and space, and Macro 5 (Swirl) to add movement and modulation. These three macros define the core character of the effect.

Step 4 - Add Texture and Refine

Use Macro 3 for harmonic shimmer, Macro 6 for texture and degradation, and Macro 7 to shape the brightness. Then fine tune Macro 1 and Macro 8 until the vocal feels coloured and alive.
